.se (Sweden) DNSSEC Outage: 2009-10-12

Updated: May 10, 2015

Overview

This page gives some details on the .se DNSSEC outage of October 12, 2009. Information is limited because this outage occurred in 2009, before IANIX began tracking DNSSEC outages.

The original source for this outage was this PCMag.com article by Chloe Albanesius, posted 2009-10-13, titled "DNS Error Breaks Sweden's Internet Domains." That article cited iis.se, which administers the .se TLD. The PCMag.com article stated (emphasis mine):

When the error was discovered, the foundation sent out a new file with DNS data. "To minimize the impact on the availability of .se domains, we chose to produce and distribute [DNS data] that lacked proper signatures for DNSSEC, [which] affected accessibility to all .se domains for a short time," the group said."
